Washington: A letter seen by Reuters on Thursday revealed that President Joe Biden’s administration will provide lawmakers with an assessment by January 17 regarding the credibility of the UAE’s assurances that it is not supplying weapons to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in Sudan.

The letter came from Brett McGurk, Biden’s coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa. The White House has been under pressure from fellow Democrats to halt weapons sales to the UAE until the United States can confirm that it is not arming the Rapid Support Forces, which is a party in a civil war that has killed tens of thousands.(Reuters)
