Educational Crisis Faces Sudanese Students in Egypt After Closure of Their Schools

Cairo – Al-YuraeThe Egyptian government’s decision to close Sudanese schools last June has raised growing concern among displaced Sudanese families, especially as exam dates approach.

“Al-Yurae” surveyed the opinions of some Sudanese teachers who stopped working after this decision.

The majority of teachers indicated that the main reasons for the closure are the random opening of a large number of private schools in various neighborhoods, without following Egyptian legal or administrative systems or obtaining necessary permits. However, they emphasized the difficulty of meeting Egyptian conditions for unstable displaced communities and refugees.

In a notable development, even the officially accredited Sudanese Embassy school was suspended. And in regard to the role of the Sudanese government, teachers reported that the former Minister of Education was sent to address the crisis, but he died in Egypt before reaching any agreements.

Concerning the possibility of Sudanese students enrolling in Egyptian public schools, teachers mentioned that this option is available, but students face great difficulties in adapting due to curriculum differences. Administrative procedures also take a long time, causing some families to resort to this option only to facilitate obtaining annual residency that allows them freedom of entry and exit from the country.This educational crisis remains a major challenge for the Sudanese community in Eg
