Sudanese authorities stated Monday that 401 new cholera cases were reported in five states, with six deaths, increasing the total death toll to 388 since August.
The Ministry of Health stated that these occurrences occurred in the states of Kassala, El-Gedaref, the Red Sea, the Northern State, and the Nile River.
The ministry announced that the number of illnesses in 10 of Sudan’s 18 states increased to 12,896, with 388 fatalities.
On August 12, officials declared cholera an epidemic in the country. The outbreak of the illness coincides with the continuing suffering of the Sudanese people owing to a continuous battle between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2023, which has left more than 20,000 dead and almost 10 million displaced or as refugees, according to the UN.
The Sudan News Agency asserted that laboratory testing on aqueous diarrhea at the “Estac” Public Health Laboratory verified the existence of cholera in Sudan.
This health issue prompted a special conference at the Federal Ministry of Health’s Emergency Operations Center to review the developments resulting from recent rains, floods, and associated illnesses.
