Renewed clashes in the presidential palace and significant destruction of the archaeological building

Published:

Al-Yurae- Khartoum – Renewed fighting at the headquarters of the Sudanese presidential palace on Sunday, as explosions and plumes of smoke were heard from the building in the middle of the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
Since the outbreak of the Sudanese war, now in its second year, the buildings of the presidential palace, some of which are nearly two hundred years old, have been extensively destroyed.

The RSF accused the Sudanese army of shelling the building where it has been holed up since the outbreak of fighting and of ending their presence in the surrounding area.

Videos showed the courtyard of the old presidential palace blazing amid attempts by RSF soldiers to extinguish the fires using water.

Many civil forces appealed to both sides to avoid battles in the area, which contains a large number of ancient buildings of the capital Khartoum.

Amid the escalation of military operations, the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces urged the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces to stop targeting civilians and their areas, calling on both sides to return to the negotiating table and stop hostilities.

Since the outbreak of war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in mid-April last year, both sides have continued to accuse each other of widespread abuses against civilians and the destruction of the country’s infrastructure.
