The governor of the Darfur region announced on Sunday that the forces of the “Sudan Liberation Army” are heading to Khartoum to fight with the Sudanese army.
Sudanese media published a video of the governor of the Darfur region and head of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army, commander Minni Arko Minawi, on his way to Khartoum.
The relationship between Minawi, who is also governor of the Darfur region, and the Rapid Support Forces has been strained in recent days after the forces objected to Minawi’s announcement of an agreement with international agencies to deliver humanitarian aid to Darfur through the Dibba crossing in the northern state and talked about a plan being implemented to transfer military supplies to the Sudanese army in El Fasher.
(Sudan Tribune) newspaper quoted the Sudan Liberation Movement announcement of the arrival of Minawi MP Jaber Ishaq to the Maaqeel camp in River Nile State, where forces belonging to a number of armed movements are present.
According to the newspaper, Minawi appeared Sunday amid a convoy of military vehicles left the city of Atbara on their way to the capital Khartoum, and said in press statements that “the movement is to contribute to the return of citizens’ homes and the restoration of the country from those who provoked its citizens by rape.”
He explained that the country is going through a major crisis represented by attacks on the state and its sovereignty and attacks on citizens and their dignity through crimes and violations committed in various cities of Darfur, in addition to Gezira state and Khartoum.
“They raped women, violated sanctities, seized people’s areas and property, occupied homes and institutions and attacked safe roads where humanitarian convoys travel,” he said.
Minawi pointed out that his movement waited for more than ten months in the hope of finding a solution to the current crisis, but to no avail.
He called on the Sudanese people to resist and prevent what he called foreigners from entering homes and violating the country’s sovereignty, adding: “Foreign people come to enter our homes and insult citizens, this is a provocation … We will work with the rest of our brothers and in the joint force to stop these violations.”
On November 16, 2023, Minawi, Jibril Ibrahim and Mustafa Tambur, leader of one of the factions of the Sudan Liberation Movement, announced a departure from neutrality and standing with the Sudanese army.
