Despite calls for calm in Ramadan. clashes renewed in the capital.

Renewed clashes in the capital Khartoum on Monday between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the first day of Ramadan, despite international and regional calls for a cessation of hostilities.

Eyewitnesses told Anadolu Agency that clashes broke out between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support in Khartoum, Omdurman and Bahri west and north of the capital.

According to witnesses, the army carried out attacks on the RSF in the southern and eastern neighborhoods of Khartoum, and in areas north of the city of Bahri.

The city of Omdurman also witnessed clashes between the two sides, according to witnesses.

For its part, the Sudanese army said in a statement that its forces in the military area of Al-Kadro, north of the city of Bahri, destroyed 7 combat vehicles and two fuel trucks, belonging to the Rapid Support.

The statement confirmed the killing of the RSF personnel accompanying those vehicles, while there was no immediate comment from the RSF regarding the army statement and the clashes until 14:15 (GMT).

On Friday, the UN Security Council called for a ceasefire in Sudan within Ramadan, through a draft resolution submitted by Britain and supported by 14 countries and abstained from voting on it, and calls on “all parties to the conflict to seek a sustainable solution to the conflict through dialogue.”

On Thursday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, during a meeting of the UN Security Council, called on the parties to the conflict in Sudan to cease fire within the month of Ramadan and raise the voice of peace.

Since April 15, 2023, a war has been continuing in Sudan between the army led by Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo “Hemedti”, which has left about 13,900 dead, and more than 8 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
