Displacement and looting

Since the beginning of the war, large numbers of residents of the old neighborhoods of Omdurman and Ombada have fled to the Karari locality in the north of the city and outside the capital to escape the war, while widespread looting of citizens’ property is widespread.

A resident told Radio Dabanga from Omdurman that they had to leave their home in Umbada as a result of being looted and assaulted by groups of masked gunmen twice over the course of a week.

He explained that the unruly move in large groups and carry the belongings of citizens on the motors (tuk-tuks and trucks) and assault citizens by beating and threatening to kill.

He pointed to the difficulty of staying under these conditions, noting that there is no one working to protect them due to the chaos and the large spread of criminal groups that terrorize, loot and rob citizens.

Since the outbreak of the military conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces on April 15, residential neighborhoods in the capital, Khartoum, have been destroyed by the use of heavy weapons and air strikes, in addition to what is known as indiscriminate shelling, which targets residential areas that do not contain any military targets, amid the denial of responsibility by both sides for these attacks, which led to the death and injury of a large number of civilians.
