Al-Burhan praise Egypt promise to hold fair elections

The Commander of the Sudanese Army, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, praised the Egyptian support to maintain the safety and stability of Sudan in light of the historical juncture it is going through, expressing his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s active role in the region and the African continent.
This came in remarks after his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in the Egyptian City of Alamein, on Tuesday.

“The Sudanese army is committed to establishing a real transitional period, after which the Sudanese people can choose who they wish to govern through free and fair elections,” al-Burhan said.
“We seek to stop the war and complete the democratic process,” he said, adding, “I assure all friends of Sudan that we seek a democratic transition and do not covet governance.”
“We are facing rebel groups that have committed war crimes in order to seize power, and the Sudanese Armed Forces do not seek to continue ruling Sudan.”

For more than 4 months, violent and large-scale clashes between the Sudanese army forces and the Rapid Support Forces have continued in different areas of Sudan, most of which are concentrated in the capital, Khartoum, leaving hundreds of civilians dead and wounded.
Arab, African and international parties brokered a ceasefire, but these mediations did not succeed in reaching a permanent cessation of hostilities.
