Khartoum, -(SUNA) – The Sudan and South Sudan concluded today at Salam Rotana Hotel, the official talks on Abyei area, in the presence of the Vice-President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo and South Sudan’s Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs, General Tut Gatluak.
At the conclusion of the official talks, the two sides signed the final communique, where the Vice-President of the TSC, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, signed on behalf of the Sudan, and Tut Galwak, signed for his country.
The minutes of the second meeting of the Supreme Committees of the Sudan and South Sudan on Abyei area run for two days with the participation of the United Nations, the African Union and IGAD.
The minutes stated that the two sides discussed all issues of common concern, taking into consideration local needs in Abyei area in terms of necessary humanitarian assistance and services, the establishment of development projects such as hospitals and schools and roads that should be shared by the two sides with the assistance of the international community and the United Nations in preparation for reaching to the final status of Abye area.
The Delegation of the Republic of South Sudan tackled the final status issue which will be discussed in the upcoming talks’ rounds.
Meanwhile, Major General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr , the Force Commander for the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), presented a report in which he reviewed the security situation in Abyei area, included some recommendations and the two sides praised the level of the report and promised to consider it through their various meetings.
The two sides agreed to hold the third session of the meetings of the higher committees in Juba on a date to be determined by the two sides later.
