“Military to the barracks”..demonstration continued in Khartoum

Al-Yurae-Thousands demonstrators continued to protest in the capital and its suburbs on Thursday against a military coup carried out by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan whose first anniversary fell two days ago,

An AFP journalist reported that demonstrators gathered in the centre of Bahri area north of Khartoum on one of the main streets, waving Sudanese flags and chanting “Military to the barracks”.

They also blocked roads around them by placing stones and tree branches and burning damaged car tires, according to the same source, while Sudanese authorities closed the two bridges linking the Bahri area to central Khartoum.

In the central Dim area, demonstrators gathered holding up pictures of those killed in protests and performing revolutionary songs.
On the other hand, dozens of Sudanese organized a protest Thursday in front of the office of the United Nations High Commissioner in Khartoum to condemn the escalation of tribal violence in Blue Nile state, south of the Bila
Blue Nile state has recently seen bloody tribal clashes that have killed about 250 people, state health minister Jamal Nasser confirmed to AFP on Thursday.

Over the past few days, thousands of Sudanese have come out to commemorate the first military coup carried out by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on October 25 last year.

On this day, Burhan reneged on all the pledges he made two years ago to share power with civilians in preparation for free elections in Sudan.
He ordered the arrest of all political leaders and civilian ministers in the government, and the army seized power.

Since then, internet access has been cut off while any action against the coup is being organized, as is the case on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, a protester was killed by a vehicle belonging to security forces during demonstrations involving thousands in Khartoum and several other cities, according to the anti-coup Central Committee of Doctors.

This brings to 119 the number of people killed in repression in one year, while Western embassies have called on military personnel not to shoot into crowds.
