Al-Burhan holds talks with Saudi Crown Prince on the situation in Sudan

Mecca (March 29, 2025) – Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman received Sudan’s Sovereign Council President and Army Commander, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on Friday at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah. The meeting focused on the latest developments in Sudan and efforts to achieve security and stability in the country.

During the discussions, the two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation prospects and agreed to establish a coordination council aimed at enhancing relations across various fields, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). Al-Burhan briefed the Crown Prince on Sudan’s situation, highlighting recent victories by the Sudanese Armed Forces in the ongoing conflict with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Following the meeting, Crown Prince Mohammed hosted an iftar banquet in honor of the Sudanese delegation. The reception was attended by senior officials from both sides, including Saudi ministers and Sudanese representatives such as Sudan’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia and key members of Al-Burhan’s office.

Sudanese Army Advances
The meeting comes after significant military gains by the Sudanese army, which announced on Wednesday its control over key RSF positions in Khartoum. The army reported recapturing strategic areas, including the western side of Manshiya Bridge connecting Khartoum to East Nile, as well as Al-Bagir in southeastern Khartoum. It also regained control of Taiba Camp in Jebel Awlia locality, a major RSF stronghold.

The army spokesperson stated that RSF forces suffered heavy losses in equipment and personnel during these operations. He emphasized that remaining RSF pockets would soon be eliminated. Reports also indicated that the army was sweeping Khartoum International Airport to ensure RSF forces were fully expelled from the area.

Ongoing Conflict
Since April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a devastating war between the army and RSF, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths, millions displaced, and widespread destruction across the country. Both sides have been accused of war crimes, with civilians bearing the brunt of the violence. Despite international mediation efforts, including Saudi-led initiatives, a resolution to the conflict remains elusive.
