The Khartoum State government in Sudan reported on Wednesday that the army has liberated a large number of prisoners, including officers and civilians, after recapturing extensive areas in Khartoum State from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to “Al-Mashhad Al-Sudani” website, the Khartoum State government stated that the freed prisoners are in critical health condition, and they are being counted and provided with necessary assistance.
This comes after the Sudanese Armed Forces spokesman, Nabil Abdullah Ali, announced on Wednesday that the army has taken control of the last major RSF strongholds in Khartoum, noting that they are pursuing the remaining elements in the capital.
The spokesman said in successive statements that the Sudanese army has secured control over the western side of the Manshiya bridge, which connects Khartoum and East Nile. He added that the armed forces also regained control of the Al-Baqir area southeast of Khartoum, as well as the RSF’s Taiba camp in Jebel Awliya locality in Khartoum State.
Abdullah explained that the Sudanese army, along with supporting forces, continues to advance on the eastern Khartoum axis, noting that it has regained control of the 1st Infantry Brigade headquarters in Al-Baqir, inflicting “significant losses in equipment and lives” on the RSF in the area.
He pointed out that the Sudanese army forces have taken over the RSF camp in Taiba Al-Hasnab in Jebel Awliya locality, which is their main camp in the center of the country and their last stronghold in Khartoum.
The Sudanese army spokesman emphasized that “what remains of their presence are mere pockets here and there that will be eliminated soon”.
This comes with reports indicating that the army is combing Khartoum International Airport to ensure the expulsion of RSF elements from the area.
Sudan has been witnessing a devastating war since April 2023 between the army and the “Rapid Support Forces,” which has led to the death and injury of tens of thousands, the displacement of millions, and the division of the country
