RSF seizes military base near Libyan border and Lagawa town, again vows to reach Northern State

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have announced capturing a Sudanese army military base in the Al-Malha area near the borders with Libya and Chad, according to Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat. This comes after they confirmed taking control of the strategic city of Al-Malha two days ago.

RSF media reported that their forces seized control of the “Jebel Issa” army base, located deep in the desert in Al-Malha locality, North Darfur state, western Sudan. They released a video showing their forces at the base, where one speaker threatened to launch attacks on areas in northern Sudan after capturing Al-Malha and the “Jebel Issa” base.

The RSF also stated they took control of the strategic town of Lagawa in South Kordofan state, inflicting heavy losses on the army and seizing 11 fully-equipped combat vehicles. They consider this acquisition as strengthening their control and opening the way for them to spread throughout the Kordofan region, which consists of three states, most of which are already under RSF control.

Meanwhile, the assistant commander-in-chief of the Sudanese army, Lieutenant General Yasser Al-Atta, stated that the airports of N’Djamena and Amdjarass in Chad are considered legitimate targets for the Sudanese army. Al-Atta’s recent threats are not the first of their kind, as he has frequently criticized neighboring countries and accused them of supporting the RSF.

The RSF announced victories in battles in the North Darfur desert, while the army claimed it was close to controlling central Khartoum on Sunday morning and had recaptured the Republican Palace last Friday. Eyewitnesses reported that the RSF had withdrawn from the palace and the city center under heavy siege by army forces.

Three civilians, including two children and a woman, were killed on Sunday due to RSF shelling on Omdurman city in Greater Khartoum, according to a medical source. The source at Al-Nu Hospital also reported 8 others were injured. Eyewitnesses said they heard 7 shells falling on residential areas under army control. The Karari locality, specifically the military area in Karari, was also subjected to artillery and drone strikes on Sunday morning, as part of a systematic campaign by the RSF targeting this army stronghold in the capital
