Amid intense battles… the army evacuates civilians from western Omdurman neighborhoods

The Sudanese army evacuated civilians from western Omdurman to safe areas after establishing control over Khartoum. Citizens expressed relief to Al Arabiya for their safe exit after being trapped in their neighborhoods since the war began.

Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in a war that has left more than 20,000 dead and nearly 10 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.

UN and international calls are escalating to end the war to spare Sudan a humanitarian catastrophe that has begun pushing millions towards famine and death due to food shortages. The fighting has spread to 13 out of 18 states.
