Units from the army and supporting forces managed to storm and take control of Tuti Island in Khartoum State on Saturday, March 22, 2025, after nearly two full years of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) domination over the island that sits at the center of the capital’s three cities, according to the Ultra Sudan news website.
The “Al-Baraa bin Malik Battalion” posted video clips from a mosque inside Tuti Island, where one of its members raised the call to prayer, while others confirmed entering the island and taking control after expelling the RSF forces.
Tuti residents faced numerous disasters over the past two years under RSF control of the island, as they were besieged and prevented from leaving, with high fees imposed if permission to exit was granted.
Tuti Island is connected to Khartoum city via the Tuti Bridge, which remained under RSF control and management throughout the past months, turning the city into something resembling a large prison. The only means of movement besides the bridge were sailboats linking Tuti to the cities of Bahri and Omdurman, which stopped due to the ongoing war.
The RSF forces in Khartoum State are facing a difficult situation amid repeated defeats they have suffered over the past two months, with the army’s expansion and control over large areas of the state, and these forces being besieged in scattered pockets between Omdurman and Khartoum.
On Friday, March 21, the army managed to recapture the Republican Palace after fierce battles against RSF forces in central Khartoum over the past two weeks.
On Saturday, the army achieved other victories inside Khartoum city after taking control of the Mogran area, Corinthia Hotel, Bank of Sudan, sovereign ministries on Nile and University streets, and recapturing the General Intelligence headquarters.
