Sudanese Army: We have full control over the theater of operations in Khartoum

A high-ranking source in the Sudanese army told Al Jazeera that they have complete control over the theater of operations in Khartoum, following days of recapturing the presidential palace and vital centers in the capital.

Field sources confirmed that the army is close to controlling the entire Al-Mogran area in central Khartoum, and its forces have entered the Tuti neighborhood, in the middle of the Nile confluence.

The Sudanese army spokesman said that the army regained control of strategic sites, including the home of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander, the intelligence headquarters, and the central bank.

He indicated that the ongoing battles in Khartoum left 100 RSF members dead.

On the other hand, medical sources told Al Jazeera that a woman was killed and two others were injured due to shelling in Al-Thawra city in Omdurman during the early hours of today.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent confirmed hearing six explosions at dawn today in the eighth district of Al-Thawra city in Omdurman, following RSF shelling targeting the area.

The 19th district was also attacked by RSF forces using dive-bombing drones.

Field sources also told Al Jazeera that RSF forces launched a new attack on villages west of Al-Rahad city in North Kordofan state, leading to an increased wave of displacement in the area.

In El Fasher, North Darfur state, the Resistance Committees Coordination said that the battles in the Al-Malha area between the Sudanese army and its allies against the RSF forces left about 45 civilian casualties.

It’s worth noting that since last Wednesday, battles have been ongoing between the army and its allies on one side and the RSF forces on the other in “Al-Malha,” which is about 200 kilometers north of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state.

Commenting on the field developments, Osama Eidrous, professor of strategic and security studies, told Al Jazeera Net that the Sudanese army is working with a strategy of isolation, encirclement, and then takeover. He added that the army has taken control of all bridges over the Nile leading to Khartoum city except for Jebel Awlia Bridge, which connects Khartoum with the west of the White Nile on the road leading to Kordofan and Darfur.

Eidrous stated that the army has taken control of the heart of Khartoum at the confluence of the White and Blue Niles, an area that contains all symbols of state sovereignty, including the Republican Palace, Bank of Sudan, sovereign ministries, and others.

After clearing northern Khartoum, “several armies are now advancing and completely encircling the city from the south. The turning point in the battle for Khartoum will be taking control of Jebel Awlia Bridge and Taiba Camp, after which RSF fighters will have no option but death or surrender,” according to Eidrous.
