The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council in Sudan, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said on Friday that the army is advancing steadily towards victory. In his first statement in the Kamlein area after the Sudanese army took control of the presidential palace in Khartoum, al-Burhan affirmed that the battle will not stop, and the army will continue fighting.
He pointed out that the army derives its fighting spirit in this battle from the support of the people, according to his expression, and said, “We will not retreat or delay, and we will take the people’s right from those who looted and killed them”.
Al-Burhan, who also holds the position of army commander, added, “We are determined to end the rebellion and remove the criminal gang,” and reiterated that “there is no negotiation with the Rapid Support Forces and we are working to remove them”.
The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council indicated that what he described as the rebellion possesses weapons that a militia cannot obtain, and there are those who supply them with weapons. He said, “In the future, we will reveal the countries and parties that supply the rebels with qualitative weapons”.
For its part, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry confirmed that the restoration of the Republican Palace is “the last nail in the coffin of the foreign conspiracy against Sudan’s sovereignty,” according to its expression.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that “our forces were able to break the thorn of the terrorist militia and liberate the Republican Palace, the symbol of sovereignty”.
Earlier on Friday, a military source in the Sudanese army told Al Jazeera that army forces took full control of the presidential palace in Khartoum on Friday morning, while the Rapid Support Forces confirmed that the battle for the presidential palace was not over, and that its fall does not mean losing the war.
The source explained that the army initially controlled the eastern gate of the presidential palace and killed dozens of Rapid Support Forces elements inside the palace, while others managed to flee to the Arab Market and Forest Street in central Khartoum.
A statement by the Sudanese army said that it “crushed the terrorist militia of Al Dagalo in central Khartoum, the Arab Market, and the buildings of the Republican Palace and ministries”.
The spokesman for the Sudanese army, Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah, added that the army forces “destroyed the enemy’s personnel and equipment, and seized large quantities of their equipment and weapons,” confirming “moving forward on all fighting axes until victory is completed by cleansing every inch of the country
