El Fasher – Field sources informed Al Jazeera Net that the Sudanese military air force successfully carried out an airdrop operation on Wednesday, delivering humanitarian aid and medicine to displaced people in Zamzam camp, located 15 kilometers south of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state in western Sudan.
The sources explained that the airdrop operation came at a time when the Sudanese army and joint forces made significant progress on several fronts inside El Fasher city, while the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) retreated from many strongholds.
Under Siege
After six months of violations allegedly committed by the RSF in Zamzam camp, the vast majority of its population, estimated at about one million people, is now threatened by famine and disease, according to UN agency estimates.
Mohamed Khamis Doda, the official spokesperson for the displaced in Zamzam camp, told Al Jazeera Net that the camp witnessed the first successful airdrop of relief aid on Wednesday since the siege began last April.

He indicated that the airdrop operation targeted new displaced persons and contained estimated quantities of sugar, flour, and milk, donated by the regional government in Darfur and some humanitarian charities. He confirmed that this aid is not sufficient to meet the increasing needs in the camp, especially regarding access to safe drinking water.
According to Adam Juma, a youth leader in the camp, the RSF continues to impose a suffocating siege preventing the entry of humanitarian aid, leading to a severe shortage of some consumer goods and causing a crazy rise in prices.
The activist stressed the need to continue airdrop operations to provide food and medicine, warning that “many people are threatened by hunger and disease due to lack of food and health care.” He appealed to humanitarian organizations to reconsider their plans and direct their support to the camp, even if through air supplies.
According to local statistics, the number of displaced people who fled from areas southeast of the camp and arrived there over the past two weeks exceeded 16,000 families, while the total number of displaced people in the camp is estimated at about one million, according to local authorities.
Attack Plan
Meanwhile, the media office of the 6th Infantry Division of the Sudanese Army in El Fasher announced that the armed forces continue to advance on all fighting fronts in the city.
In a press statement, the army said it carried out an attack that resulted in the killing of 25 RSF elements and the wounding of dozens, in addition to the destruction of 3 military vehicles, including a tractor and two Land Cruisers. The statement confirmed that “the remaining militia elements fled after suffering heavy losses.”
The statement indicated that this operation was carried out with full coordination between ground forces, artillery, and drones. It said that the captured prisoners revealed intelligence information related to plans to attack the city, as well as their gathering locations east of El Fasher, with forces coming from the cities of Geneina, Zalingei, and Ed Daein.
The army statement mentioned that this information is being analyzed, and that the armed forces are at the highest levels of readiness to monitor any “hostile movement.”
