89 Sudanese Released from Libya

The Sudanese embassy in Libya announced the release of 89 Sudanese nationals in Ghout al-Shaal in cooperation with the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency on Saturday, according to Al-Mashhad Al-Sudani newspaper.

The newspaper added that the embassy said in a statement today that it will continue its efforts to check on the conditions of Sudanese citizens detained in shelters in Libya. The embassy, represented by the prison committee established for this purpose, participated in the release of the 89 Sudanese.

The embassy added that what is published in social media does not exclusively concern Sudanese immigrants, but also other illegal immigrants. The Libyan authorities’ implementation of such procedures is a legitimate right and part of their core duties.

The embassy stated that “the declared policies of the Libyan government towards Sudanese immigrants involve providing facilities and assistance to them as dear guests, and not treating them like other illegal immigrants of other nationalities, in consideration of the current circumstances in Sudan.”

It confirmed that it is in continuous communication with Libyan authorities at the highest levels, and with international and national organizations working in the humanitarian field, regarding adjusting the status of Sudanese nationals in Libya and providing facilities and services to them during Sudan’s current ordeal.

The embassy also promised to provide all facilities and help them secure means for their temporary stay in Libya until stability and security return to Sudan.
