Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, held a phone call on Sunday with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit to discuss the security developments in South Sudan and bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to a statement from Sudan’s Sovereign Council, the call addressed relations between Khartoum and Juba, exploring ways to strengthen and enhance them, as well as issues of mutual interest, particularly in light of the escalating security tensions in South Sudan.
During the call, al-Burhan emphasized Sudan’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability in South Sudan, stressing that stability in Juba positively impacts the situation in Sudan itself. He highlighted the interconnected nature of security between the two nations, calling for enhanced cooperation to maintain regional stability.
President Salva Kiir expressed his government’s commitment to strengthening security and economic cooperation with Sudan. He noted that his administration is making significant efforts to restore peace and stability within South Sudan.
