The (Darfur24) website reported a notable influx of Sudanese returnees at the Raqibat border crossing between Sudan and South Sudan, heading to East Darfur state. Dozens of citizens fled due to a wave of violence that swept through several cities in South Sudan. These refugees faced violent attacks and looting by some local residents, prompting their decision to return to their homeland. These events occur amid escalating tensions between local communities and Sudanese refugees, with increased violations by armed forces in the region.
In response to the deteriorating situation, Sudanese army leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan ordered the formation of a committee to investigate crimes against South Sudanese nationals. He also called on leaders of both countries to take immediate action to calm tensions. In Juba, local authorities imposed a night curfew as a security measure to curb violence and looting, reflecting growing concerns about worsening security conditions.
In North Darfur, local residents in Al-Malha and Mellit villages reported a mass exodus on Monday from Helf and Diqrashi areas in Al-Malha, as well as Mado, Mo, and Al-Sayah near Mellit. Another source from Al-Sayah and Taqabo northeast of Mellit reported the flight of remaining civilians following recent battles in the North Darfur desert.
“Most residents left the town since last September after Rapid Support Forces took control, looting properties and crops, destroying water wells, and seizing the rural health center. Only some women, children, and elderly citizens remained.”
This displacement occurs as battles continue in the area for the second consecutive week, forcing many residents to flee for safety. New displaced persons have moved to Al-Malha and Al-Dabba in the Northern State, as well as the border triangle connecting Sudan, Libya, and Egypt.
The humanitarian situation in the region is worsening with increasing numbers of displaced people, necessitating intervention from concerned parties to provide necessary assistance and protection for those affected by the ongoing conflict.
