Burhan sacks foreign, information and endowment ministers

On Sunday evening, the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council in Sudan, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, issued a decision to terminate the appointments of Foreign Minister Hussein Awad, Information Minister Graham Abdul Qadir, and Endowments Minister Osama Ahmed, and to appoint replacements for them.

The Sovereignty Council said in a statement that Burhan issued a decision approving the Transitional Council of Ministers’ resolution to end Hussein Awad Ali Mohammed’s assignment as Foreign Minister and to appoint Ali Youssef Al-Sharif as his replacement.

On April 17, Burhan had appointed Hussein Awad as Foreign Minister, succeeding Ali Al-Sadiq.Burhan also issued a decision on Sunday to end the assignment of Culture and Information Minister Graham Abdul Qadir and to appoint Khaled Ali Al-Ayser in his place.

Additionally, he decided to end the assignment of Endowments Minister Osama Hassan Mohammed Ahmed and to appoint Omar Bakhit to the same position, according to the same source.These ministerial changes come amid a war being waged by the Sudanese army, led by Burhan, against the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) since mid-April 2023.

The conflict has left more than 20,000 dead and over 11 million displaced and refugees, according to UN reports.UN and international calls are escalating to end the war to spare Sudan a humanitarian catastrophe that has begun to push millions of people towards famine and death due to food shortages caused by the fighting, which has spread to 13 out of 18 states.Source: Agencies
