Sudanese Sovereign Council President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan flew to New York on Tuesday to participate in the United Nations General Assembly,
A senior Sudanese sovereign source told Al Jazeera that Burhan will travel today to New York to participate in the meetings of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to the source, Burhan is scheduled to deliver a speech next Thursday on the current developments in Sudan and will hold other meetings with leaders and leaders on the sidelines of the General Assembly meetings discussing the ongoing war in Sudan.
On Monday, Sudan’s foreign minister participated in the “Future Summit” on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
In his speech to world leaders, the Sudanese minister called for the need to abide by the relevant international commitments to ban the supply of weapons to what he described as “terrorist groups and rebel militias” to create a world free of wars.
Meanwhile, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and the Sudanese Foreign Minister “praised the steadfastness of the relationship between the two countries during all eras because it is based on strong foundations and sincere brotherhood.
added that the Sudanese Foreign Minister explained the latest developments in the situation in Sudan and the government’s increasing openness in dealing with the international community,
Sudan’s Foreign Ministry also said Ali met his Eritrean counterpart Osman Saleh in New York to discuss relations between the two countries and coordinate “international positions”.
The war in Sudan between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has been going on since mid-April 2023, leaving about 18,800 dead and nearly 10 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
