Hunger threatens civilians trapped in battle, emergency room committees issue distress call

Emergency rooms in the city of Bahri, north of the capital Khartoum, issued a distress call to make people trapped by the battles aware of severe shortages of food and medicine. It said that the city is living difficult moments reflected in images of poverty and disease, while the battles have been going on for about a year and a half, warning that hunger kills the people who are stranded there mercilessly, while the cries of children looking for a living and a dose of medicine are louder.
The resistance committees in the city of Bahri pointed out that the ongoing battles left no choice for the residents of the areas of Hattab and Al-Kadro, located north of the city, but to flee towards the unknown after many lost their homes and loved ones due to indiscriminate shelling and continuous battles.

They called on the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support to facilitate the access of food and medicine aid to Bahri, pointing to the lives lost daily due to hunger and disease.

One of the reasons for the lack of food is the theft of some of them by RSF, it said.
they appealed to all entities, parties, organizations and Sufi orders in the city of Bahri to unite their efforts in order to save what can be saved.
This comes at a time when “Nidaa Al-Wasat” warned of the scarcity and high prices of food and medicines in Sennar state, noting that the localities in which the Rapid Support Forces are present are the worst living, as they do not have potable water, which leads citizens to search for wells or go to the river directly to get water.

They also pointed to the rise in cholera cases in the state, as well as the spread of viral diseases and fevers in all localities of the state amid the lack of means of disease prevention and health care, which causes an increase in the number of deaths among citizens.
it attributed the scarcity of food and medicine to looting, theft and vandalism that affected health and commercial facilities and stores.
Pointing out that the people in Gezira State in central Sudan suffer from the widespread spread of infections, fevers and malaria, in the absence of health care and the scarcity of medicines and life-saving drugs significantly, noting that if found, they are expired or not stored in the right way, which leads to corruption.

The RSF was accused of exacerbating the crisis by targeting health facilities and medical stores, leaving residents facing certain death. it pointed out that the royalties imposed by the Rapid Support Forces on traders have led to a significant rise in the prices of goods and foodstuffs, which has increased the hardship of living.
It said that “forces led by” Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “continue to loot despite imposing royalties and imposing ‘protection fees’ against attacks by their ‘mercenaries’ on merchants.”
they pointed out that the economic paralysis that has hit the region has cast a shadow on citizens living in extremely difficult security and living conditions, since the Rapid Support Forces seized the state in central Sudan last December.

It pointed out that the number of displaced people has risen to 10.8 million people, indicating that 52% of the displaced are children under the age of 18. Severe food shortages threaten two-thirds of Sudanese people, according to United Nations statistics, while statistics published by the International Organization for Migration on Tuesday showed that 90% of the total displaced families in Sudan cannot afford food.
25 million Sudanese face extreme hunger, after ongoing fighting since mid-April last year destroyed the country’s economic, agricultural and infrastructure activities, while most of the population lost their jobs, sources of income and property.
