Sudanese government: The US delegation in Jeddah did not commit to the talks and insisted on the UAE’s participation as an observer

The Sudanese government issued several observations on the consultative meeting held on August 9 and 10, August, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabic Arabia, between its representative, Minister Mohamed Bashir Abu Nomu, and the US delegation headed by the US envoy to Sudan, Tom Perrillo, regarding Sudan’s invitation to participate in the Geneva Forum.
The first of these remarks was “the failure of the US delegation to push the rebel militia to commit to implementing the ‘Jeddah Declaration’, which includes a commitment to protect civilians in Sudan and is based on international humanitarian law and human rights law,” according to a statement from the Sudanese army, last night.

The Sudanese government pointed to “the insistence of the US delegation on the participation of the UAE Arabic as an observer in the meeting,” and added that “the US delegation did not provide justification for the establishment of a new platform, and relied on incorrect information in assessing the situation in Sudan.”

The Sudanese government added that it “expresses the aspirations and hopes of the Sudanese people, who are subjected to all forms of violence and grave violations, as a result of which they lost their achievements and material, moral and cultural property by the rebel militia.”
The Government of Sudan concluded by affirming its “commitment to the implementation of the Jeddah Declaration signed on May 11, May, 2023, rejects the presence of any new observers or facilitators, and welcomes initiatives that meet, respond and preserve the sovereignty of the country and the dignity of the Sudanese people.”

Mohamed Bashir Abu Namo, head of the delegation of the Government of Sudan, announced at consultative meetings with the United States in the Saudi city of Jeddah the failure to reach an agreement on the participation of a Sudanese government delegation in the talks scheduled to start in Geneva on August 14.

Mohamed Bashir Abu Nomou said on Sunday in a Facebook post (the activities of the company “Meta”, which includes the social networks “Facebook” and “Instagram”, are banned in Russia, as extremist): “I announce, in my capacity as head of the government delegation in the consultative meetings with the Americans in the Saudi city of Jeddah, the end of the consultations without agreeing on the participation of the Sudanese delegation in the Geneva negotiations, as a recommendation to the leadership, whether the delegation is a representative of the army according to their desire or a representative of the government, according to the government’s decision from now on.”

“It is ultimately up to the leadership’s decision with its estimates, and there are certainly many details that led us to this decision to end the consultative dialogue without an agreement,” Nomou concluded.
Last Friday, the Sudanese government decided to send a delegation to the Saudi city of Jeddah to consult with the US side on the invitation extended to the Sudanese parties to attend peace negotiations in Geneva on August 14, August.
The Sudanese Scene website quoted the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan as saying a statement announcing its decision to send a delegation to negotiate headed by Sudanese Minister of Minerals Mohamed Bashir Abd Allah Abu Nomu, noting that “the decision comes within the framework of the government’s keenness to achieve peace, security and stability in Sudan and to alleviate the suffering resulting from the war.”

This follows the launch of United States call for a new round of negotiations between the army and the Rapid Support Forces on August 14 in Geneva, with the aim of a ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid and the development of a monitoring and monitoring mechanism to verify in the event of the signing of an agreement.
At the end of July July, the head of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, called on Saudi Arabia and the United States to talk to the Sudanese government.
Al-Burhan was quoted by al-Sudani newspaper as saying that “Saudi Arabia and the United States must talk to the government of Sudan, recognize its sovereignty and listen to its view on stopping the war if they want to help achieve peace.”
Battles between the Sudanese army forces and the Rapid Support Forces have continued since mid-April April 2023, resulting in about 13,100 deaths, while the total number of displaced people in Sudan reached about 7.9 million people, and about 2.1 million people to neighboring countries, according to United Nations data.
