Local sources revealed that the Sudanese government sent a delegation to Juba on Monday to negotiate with the SPLM-N, led by Abdul Aziz al-Hilu.

Sudan’s Al-Karama newspaper reported that the meeting will discuss ways to deliver relief aid to government and movement areas in the Nuba Mountains.

The two generals, General Shams al-Din Kabbashi, a member of the Sovereignty Council and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army, and Abdul Aziz Adam al-Hilu, leader of the SPLM, agreed to pass relief to the areas controlled by both without obstacles on May 4, after successful talks brought them together in Juba mediated by the State of South Sudan.

The parties agreed that delegations representing the Government and the SPLM would meet within a week to draw up the detailed agreement before the senior leadership of the two parties and the South Sudanese mediator.

Since April last year, Sudan has been witnessing heavy fighting between the Sudanese army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hemedti), which has caused the death of thousands of Sudanese and the displacement of millions to neighboring countries.

The United Nations estimates that 25 million people, more than half of Sudanese, need aid, and at least 18 million of them suffer from food insecurity.
