The UN Security Council discusses today the “Emirati aggression” and Moscow confirms support for Khartoum’s positions in international forums

Expect the UN Security Council to hold a special session on Today to discuss Sudan’s complaint about the “Emirati aggression” against the country. At the same time, the Russian special envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, affirmed his country’s support for Khartoum’s positions in international forums.
Sudan’s mission to the United Nations, according to the Sudan News Agency, said that the council responded to its request for a meeting regarding its accusations against Abu Dhabi.
The Sudanese government announced on Saturday that it had submitted a request to the UN Security Council to hold an urgent meeting to discuss the “Emirati aggression” on Sudan and hold Abu Dhabi legally and criminally responsible for “the crimes it commits against the Sudanese people and state.”

The Sudanese government accuses the UAE of supporting the Rapid Support Forces in the war raging in Sudan since mid-April last year.
In a letter addressed to the UN Security Council, Sudan’s representative to the United Nations, Al-Harith Idris Al-Harith, blamed the UAE for the violations he said the support forces committed against the state and citizens.
He considered that Abu Dhabi is a partner in all the “crimes and atrocities” that occurred in Sudan, which entails international responsibility in accordance with the provisions of international law.
“The UAE’s aggressive behavior represents a flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations, the Charter of the League of Arab States and United Nations resolutions on the Darfur region, especially resolution 1591 and other relevant resolutions,” he said.

He accused Abu Dhabi of sponsoring attacks on state headquarters and the country’s infrastructure in alliance with foreign elements, adding: “A war has been waged against the state, as well as hostage-taking, destroying civilian aircraft, attacking hospitals and health headquarters, and storming civilian objects, places of worship and citizens’ homes.
On March 28, the Sudanese government filed a formal complaint at the UN Security Council against Abu Dhabi, accusing it of aggression and interference in the country’s internal affairs, demanding that the UAE immediately stop recruiting “mercenaries” and cut off military and logistical support, supplies and supplies to the Rapid Support Forces and allied groups.
While arrangements are under way for a special session on the Sudanese government’s complaint against the UAE, the administrative capital Port Sudan witnessed Sudanese-Russian talks on Sunday, which will continue until Monday.

In this context, a member of the Sovereignty Council, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army Shams al-Din Kabbashi, and the Russian Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, discussed bilateral relations between Sudan and Russia and ways to enhance political, economic and military cooperation.
Bogdanov arrived on Sunday in Sudan on a two-day official visit aimed at activating consultation and coordination between the two countries bilaterally and in regional and international forums, according to the Sudanese Foreign Ministry.
Kabbashi said that Moscow continued to take positions in support of Sudanese legitimacy, adding: “All attempts by those who stalk the interests of Sudan, its sovereignty and stability are doomed to failure.”
He stressed the government’s openness to all initiatives to stop bloodshed, provided that they be within the framework of what he called “legitimacy and the Sudanese vision.”
The Minister of Foreign Affairs-designate, Ambassador Hussein Awad, said in a press statement that the Russian envoy denounced the claims based on equality between the legitimacy of the Sudanese state and the “rebellion”, stressing Russia’s support for Sudan in the face of everything that would threaten its sovereignty and the interests of its people.

The Foreign Minister-designate held a joint session of talks with the Russian President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister and his accompanying delegation.
According to Sudanese Foreign Ministry spokesman Babiker al-Siddiq, the meeting discussed ways to strengthen strategic relations between the two countries.
He noted that the two ministers deliberated on the similar challenges faced by the two countries as a result of attempts at external interference in their private affairs.
The Sudanese Foreign Minister-designate explained the recent developments in the country, stressing that the armed forces have the initiative and are making great progress on all fronts.
He said that some Western and regional circles seek to impose political visions and groups that are not popular with popularity.
The Russian envoy reiterated his country’s support for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and legitimacy, stressing his country’s rejection of foreign interference in Sudan and plans to tear it apart.
He criticized the style of Western powers, which he said believe that they are the sole controllers of international affairs and determine the destinies of peoples, expressing his country’s appreciation for Sudan’s support for Russia in international forums, and stressing the continuation of mutual support and coordination between the two countries.
During the meeting of the Russian delegation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Minerals Minister Mohamed Bashir Abu Nomu, Bogdanov said his country considered Sudan’s Sovereign Council as the country’s legitimate representative.
He pointed to the continuation of cooperation between the Ministry of Minerals and its counterparts in Moscow for the benefit of both countries, stressing the importance of partnership between the two countries and “promising projects” in the field of mining. The two sides discussed overcoming all obstacles facing joint cooperation between the two countries.
The Sudanese minister accused neighbours – he believed were friendly – of contributing directly to fuelling the conflict in the country.
