Khartoum: The Sudanese government has said that Iran is playing no role in the current war in Sudan. Sudan’s representative to the United Nations, Harith Idris Al-Harith, announced his country’s rejection of the UAE’s participation in any settlement to resolve the Sudanese crisis, accusing it of igniting war in the country by supporting the Rapid Support Forces.
The United States has confirmed the resumption of the Jeddah negotiating platform in May with the participation of additional mediators, including Abu Dhabi and Cairo.
The representative of Sudan said during his address to the Security Council session on the situation in Sudan, on Friday evening, that the presence of the UAE in any settlement will lead to its failure. He added that it is a country that sponsored the armed aggression and continues to support it, and it must be deprived of any future role in Sudan and the profits of peace.
He held Abu Dhabi responsible for everything that happened in Sudan, stressing that it would not have happened without the UAE, which he considered “the regional sponsor of the plan of armed aggression against Sudan.” He accused them of providing military and logistical support to the Rapid Support Forces and their allies from armed groups, as well as political, media and propaganda support.
He pointed out that the Sudanese government has submitted a well-substantiated complaint against the UAE, supported by the report of the Panel of Experts of the 1591 Sanctions Committee.
He stressed that the UAE’s support for the Rapid Support Forces was one of the most important reasons for disturbing the military balance of the armed forces in the Darfur region in western Sudan.
He called for naming those he described as “sponsors of aggression” by their explicit names, pointing out that it was insufficient to refer to them as an allusion.
He pointed out that Sudan will not cooperate with any party that tends to internationalize the Sudanese conflict or use it as a political lever to pressure the Sudanese government.
He called on the Security Council to pass a resolution condemning the UAE and urging it to stop supporting Hemedti’s forces and “stop fueling war, provoking unrest and displacing the Sudanese people.” He stressed that the UAE’s explicit condemnation in the council is the right start to stop the war, calling on it to “stop supplying militias with war equipment and armoured vehicles, funding fighters and snipers, and providing jamming tools and advanced missiles”.
