General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, on Saturday called on all parties in Sudan to abide by the Security Council resolution calling for a cessation of hostilities during the month of Ramadan, in order to preserve security, stability and the safety of Sudanese lives.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Al-Budaiwi expressed his hope that all parties in the Republic of Sudan would abide by Security Council Resolution No. 2724, which calls for a cessation of hostilities in the Republic of Sudan during the month of Ramadan, “in a way that preserves security, stability and the safety of the lives of the Sudanese people, and the spirituality of this blessed month.”

Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi stressed the GCC’s firm positions and decisions on “the importance of preserving the sovereignty, security, stability and territorial integrity of Sudan, and supporting Sudan in facing the developments and repercussions of the current crisis.

It is also necessary to calm down, give priority to the language of dialogue and unity, alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Sudanese people, maintain the cohesion of national state institutions, prevent their collapse and prevent any external interference in Sudanese affairs that fuels the conflict and threatens regional peace and security.”
On Friday evening, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Sudan within Ramadan. The resolution also calls on all parties to ensure the removal of any impediments and the full, speedy, safe and unhindered access of humanitarian assistance, including across borders and across the lines of contact, and to comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law.
