Dutch police arrested 13 people in connection with riots between supporters and opponents of the Eritrean government, while the municipality of The Hague declared a state of emergency.
The Hague – Six Dutch police officers were injured during riots between supporters and opponents of the Eritrean government, in the country’s administrative capital, The Hague.
A Dutch police statement on Sunday said they had arrested 13 people who took part in the riots.
The statement explained that their ages range from 19 to 36 years.
The statement added that supporters and opponents of the Eritrean Government clashed with each other, as well as with the police, following a meeting in The Hague.
Members of the Eritrean groups threw stones and sticks at each other as well as at police officers, injuring six security officers, he said.
Dutch prosecutors have opened an extensive investigation into the riots, which also saw a bus and two police vehicles set on fire, along with material damage in the surrounding areas.
The Hague municipality declared a state of emergency in response to the riots and allowed police to use tear gas to disperse the crowd.
