A Sudanese official revealed on Wednesday that an investigation has been conducted into allegations of the participation of refugees from other countries in the ongoing war in Sudan.
The Sudanese news agency SUNA quoted the refugee commissioner in Sudan, Musa Ataroun, as saying that “the delegation is working on obtaining real information regarding the accusation related to the participation of refugees in the war in Sudan or not.”
In an interview with “SUNA”, the same official stated: “We will not deny the participation of refugees in the current war, but we do not have sufficient evidence or information to establish a single opinion,” noting that there are accusations of the participation of refugees of Ethiopian, Chadian and South Sudanese nationalities.
He continued: “We will investigate the matter to find out whether they are mercenaries of the same nationalities or refugees, and I have informed the Minister of Interior and the High Commissioner for Refugees of the matter, and we will reach a report that will be published to the public in due course, in accordance with international laws governing the status of refugees.”
According to international laws, any refugee participating in the war “will lose this status and will be treated as a criminal against Sudan”, he said.
He warned the refugees that they are guests who have no right to practice politics or any action against the local culture, and must be in line with the laws of the country, and any violation will be revoked of his refugee status.
