After the allegations of a coup, Army officials replies: “There is no talk other than about victory”

Al-Yurae-The Sudanese army announced that “all its forces are working under the wing of the general command with one heart”, in the first comment on the allegations that spread during the past hours, about the arrest of officers in the Sudanese city of Omdurman, on charges of coup. The team Yasser Al-Atta, assistant commander of the Sudanese army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and member of the Sovereignty Council, said that “all the army forces in the Omdurman and Wadi Saydna region are working at the highest levels in coordination with the leadership to achieve victory”, stressing that “there is no talk other than victory”. He pointed out that “all the armed forces stand behind the army commander in a strong entity to achieve the desires of the Sudanese”, indicating that “the state and the army are arranging for after the victory in the capital and moving to Kordofan and Darfur to liberate them”. Sudanese media reported, yesterday, Tuesday, that “the intelligence of the Sudanese army in the Wadi Saydna military area in Omdurman, arrested a number of officers active in the leadership of the Omdurman forces, on charges of preparing for a coup”.

The newspaper “Al-Sudani” quoted sources as saying that “the arrest campaign targeted officers active in the operations management in Omdurman in particular”, indicating that “the arrested officers who were placed in severe detention are, Colonel M. Y. A., commander of the reserve mobile in Sarkab camp, and Major Engineer M. E., director of the technical administration of the air defense and responsible for the radars and jamming devices against the marches, and Major M. H. Q., responsible for the operations of strategic support ”.

The newspaper added, quoting its sources, that “preparations are underway to arrest a colonel commander of one of the mobile forces in the city of Omdurman”, confirming that “the arrests of the officers coincided with the visit of a member of the Sovereignty Council, assistant to the commander-in-chief of the army, General Ibrahim Jaber, to the Wadi Saydna military area” A military source told the newspaper that “the officers who were arrested are among the most competent officers of the armed forces; control, connection and education, and they represent the spirit of the current Omdurman mobiled forces, and fought fierce battles against the enemy”, adding: “It seems that there is a glitch in this matter, their nature does not make them do such a move against the leadership from that region specifically, the coup is not its place, for everyone who knows military strategy”. Clashes have continued, for 11 months, between the Sudanese army forces and the Rapid Support Forces, in various parts of Sudan, most of them in the capital, Khartoum, leaving hundreds of dead and wounded among civilians.

The differences between the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council and the commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, appeared in public after signing the “framework agreement” that established the transitional period between the military and civilian components, on December 5, 2022, which approved the exit of the army from politics and the transfer of power to civilians. Dagalo accused the Sudanese army of planning to stay in power, and not handing over power to civilians, after the army demanded the integration of the Rapid Support Forces under the banner of the armed forces, while the army considered the movements of the Rapid Support Forces, a rebellion against the state. Arab, African and international parties mediated to stop the fire, but these mediations did not succeed in reaching a permanent ceasefire.
