After the resumption of relations Foreign Minister visits Iran for the first time in 7 years

Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian said during a meeting with his Sudanese counterpart, Ali al-Sadiq, on Monday that the reopening of their countries’ embassies is an important step in developing joint cooperation between the two countries.

Abdollahian’s remarks to Sadiq came during the latter’s visit to Tehran for high-level talks, the first since Sudan announced last October that relations with Iran would be restored, according to the Iranian news agency IRNA.

Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian told his Sudanese counterpart, Ali al-Sadiq, on his meeting with him on Monday that “the presence of the Sudanese delegation in Tehran shows the serious will of senior Sudanese officials to strengthen and develop relations” with Iran, adding that his country is also committed to developing relations with Sudan.

He also noted the availability of valuable energies and experiences in the industrial fields, engineering, modern technical, health and therapeutic services in Iran, as well as its readiness to transfer these experiences with the aim of expanding and developing Sudan.

For his part, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali al-Sadiq lamented the interruption of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Khartoum in 2016 and expressed his country’s serious desire to restore and expand bilateral relations.

During his visit to Tehran on Monday, the Sudanese foreign minister met with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

In October 2023, the Sudanese government announced the resumption of diplomatic relations with Iran, ending a diplomatic rupture between the two countries that lasted for about 7 years, before which the two countries had a great political relationship.
