Clashes rage in Babanousa for the fifth day, mass displacement and deterioration of the humanitarian situation

The Sudanese Medical Syndicate said on Friday that the toll of battles between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support militia in the city of Babanusa in West Kordofan state reached 10 dead, and more than 20 wounded.

Local sources said that the majority of the state’s residents were displaced to safe areas, while the deputy chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Malik Agar, called on his forces to liberate the city of Wad Madani, the capital of Gezira state.

The doctors’ syndicate added that the government hospital and all health facilities were out of service, and medical staff were facing difficulties in transporting the injured to neighboring cities.
The city of Babanusa witnessed fierce battles between the army and the “Rapid Support”, for the fifth day, and the warplanes and drones launched intensive air raids on several sites of the “Rapid Support” in the areas of the city, and the two sides exchanged artillery shelling from their platforms inside and outside the city.

Local sources also pointed out that the “Rapid Support” led a large-scale military operation in order to control the command of the 22nd Infantry Division, but the army repelled successive attacks and still maintains its military headquarters in this city despite the imposition of a siege on them and explained that Babanusa has become empty of residents, most of whom were displaced to the cities of Al-Fula and Al-Mujallid, as well as a number of villages scattered in the state.

The RSF is seeking to take control of the vital city where the command of the Sudanese army’s 22nd Infantry Division is located.
Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army led by the head of the Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo “Hemedti” have been fighting a war that has left more than 13,000 dead and more than 7 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
