A member of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Yasser Al-Atta, said on Sunday evening that the number of army soldiers in the capital Khartoum slightly exceeds 30,000, while the number of soldiers of the Rapid Support Forces exceeds 160,000 soldiers since the beginning of the war.
Yasser al-Atta appeared in a video clip on social media saying:”the war is coming to an end with the victory of the army and the popular resistance,” noting that “rapid support is losing by thousands weekly, which made it bring mercenaries from West Africa.”
Al-Atta stressed that “defending the land is a responsibility that brings us together with our people, and we did not ask any mobilizer about his political classification, as we see them all Sudanese,” adding that the “Ghadboon” group, the Islamic affiliated groups, the independent resistance committees, groups of the youth of the National Umma Party and others are among the mobilizers who are fighting alongside the army.
Al-Atta reassured army supporters that the operations carried out by the armed forces in Omdurman are proceeding at an accelerated pace from the direction of Karari as well as Mohandessin.
“There is co-ordination with the popular movement led by al-Hilu in Kordofan, and the army is fighting major battles in Madani and Al-Jazeera will soon return to the bosom of the homeland,” al-Atta said.
Last Friday, Sudanese army forces were able to repel an attack by the Rapid Support Forces in the Jabal Moya area and towards the Sennar sugar factory in western Sennar state.
This comes despite the expression last Thursday by the commander of the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), his hope for additional efforts from all Sudan’s brothers and friends in the region and the world, especially the European Union, to end the crisis in Sudan.
Since mid-April, Sudan has been witnessing a war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces that has killed more than 13,000 people, according to the Armed Conflict Sites and Events Data Project.
Armed conflict in the capital and surrounding areas has displaced some 7.5 million people inside and outside the country, according to the United Nations.
