Army accuses RSF of burning evangelical church in Wad Madani

On Sunday, the Sudanese army accused the Rapid Support Forces of burning the headquarters of the Evangelical Church in the city of Wad Madani, the capital of Gezira state.
The newspaper “Al-Youm Al-Tali” quoted the Sudanese army as saying that “the burning of the church comes as a continuation of the criminal acts committed by the terrorist militia Al-Dagalo (referring to the Rapid Support Forces),” as he described.
“The burning of the headquarters of the Evangelical Church in the city of Wad Madani led to serious damage that affected the main library, which contains historical documents that are more than a century old from the history of the church, and the incident led to the destruction of the main hall,” the army said.
The Sudanese army held the Rapid Support Forces morally and legally responsible for this act, which it described as “criminal”, vowing that the incident will not go unpunished.

In May, Sudan’s military accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of shooting at worshippers at a church in Omdurman.
This came in a statement by the army published on its official account on the platform Facebook , in light of accusations of the army by the support forces of being behind the attack.
The Army said: “As an extension of its ongoing violations and violation of all international laws and established norms, the rebel Rapid Support Militia fired on Christian worshippers at the peaceful church in Omdurman,” the Sudanese army said.
The capital, Khartoum, and its neighboring cities have been witnessing heavy fighting between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces since mid-April 2023, following political and security disputes, which caused the displacement of more than 5 million Sudanese inside and outside the country, in addition to the death of more than 5,000 civilians.
