SPLM/N agrees to meet (Taqaddum) and puts seven issues on the table

Khartoum – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – Sector North – led by Abdul Aziz al-Hilu announced its agreement to meet with the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (Taqaddum), stressing that it “welcomes sitting with any party that wishes to end the suffering of the Sudanese that has been going on for a long time.

It pointed out that the SPLM/N received an official invitation from the head of the leadership body of (Taqaddam) Abdullah Hamdouk to hold an urgent meeting with the leadership of the movement to discuss ways of joint work between the forces of the revolution to stop the war and the establishment of the Sudanese state and develop understandings for joint action to achieve those goals.
Adding that reaching a final and comprehensive solution to Sudan’s wars requires discussing the roots of the crisis in the country.
Seven core issues were put on the table, including security arrangements, issues of national identity, voluntary unity, the relationship of religion to the state, democratization, governance, economic problems and historical accountability.
Earlier this week, the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces sent letters to a number of organizations, including the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, north of the leadership of Abdul Aziz Al-Hilu, the Sudan Liberation Army Movement led by Abdul Wahid Mohamed Nur and the Sudanese Communist Party.

Last October, the Taqadam Coordination was formed in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, where it agreed that former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok would be the head of its leadership body, declaring its rejection of the continuation of the war and working to unify the civil front.
Taqadam includes many Sudanese parties and armed movements, including the National Umma Party, the Sudanese Congress and a number of components of the Revolutionary Front, headed by former member of the Sovereign Council and leader of the Sudan Liberation Army Movement (SLA), the Transitional Council, Hadi Idris.
On Tuesday, the coordination, which is headed by former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and includes a number of armed parties and movements calling for an end to the war, signed a political declaration with the leader of the Rapid Support Forces Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemedti”, in which he committed to stop hostilities and sit in direct talks with the army commander without conditions.
On Friday, the head of Sudan’s sovereign council, army commander-in-chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, rejected the political declaration, stressing that he would not talk to Hemedti, whom he accused of rebelling and destroying the country. While he warned the civil forces not to approach Hemedti and deal with him, he considered him a rebel against the Sudanese government.
On the other hand, (Taqaddam) renewed its call for Al-Burhan to hold an urgent meeting in order to discuss ending the war, stressing that it will continue its efforts to restore stability in the country and will spare no effort to stop hostilities and communicate with all revolutionary and national forces seeking to stop the war and civil democratic transformation.
In response to the call for “progress”, the Arab Socialist Baath Party welcomed the efforts to end the war, pointing to arrangements for an urgent meeting with the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces headed by Hamdok. The Sudan Liberation Army (SLA), led by Abdul Wahid Mohamed Nur, said it would respond to the invitation after its leadership council meeting. This comes at a time of heightened security tensions in the areas adjacent to the SPLM-N’s areas of influence, as the Rapid Support Forces launched on Wednesday a fierce attack on the city of Dilling, the second largest city in South Kordofan, which was seized by the SPLM after the army withdrew.
