Russia calls on parties to the conflict in Sudan to cease fire

The Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and African Countries, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, called on Thursday, during his meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Russia, Mohamed Siraj, the need to stop hostilities in Sudan.
“During the conversation, an in-depth exchange of views on the ongoing military and political crisis in Sudan took place,” the Russian Foreign Ministry statement said.
The statement added: “At the same time, the Russian side affirmed its principled position on the need for an early cessation of hostilities and the establishment of a broad national dialogue to serve to ensure the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of friendly Sudan.”

Sudan has been witnessing fierce fighting since April 15, which resulted in the deterioration of the humanitarian and health conditions in the country, and caused a large death toll among civilians, in addition to the internal and external displacement of millions of Sudanese.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said months of fighting in the country could lead to disease outbreaks and a deadly collapse of the health system, and according to the UN’s International Organization for Migration, the number of internally displaced people in Sudan has exceeded 7 million.
