The Ministry of Emigration and Expatriates Affairs urged Egyptian students studying in Sudan not to return to conflict zones in the country for the sake of their safety.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the ministry expressed concern over recent reports that some students, who were previously evacuated from Sudan, have returned to complete their studies.
The statement emphasized it has received several pleas from parents to repatriate their sons back to the homeland following the intensification of military operations by belligerents in states where universities are located.
In late December, the Egyptian foreign ministry evacuated 18 Egyptian students from Wad Madani in Sudan’s Jazeera State after the RSF attacked the city.
Afterwards, the ministry urged all Egyptian citizens currently in Sudan, including those in states that have not been affected by armed clashes, to leave the country as soon as possible, warning against any travel to Sudan.
The RSF said that it took over Wad Medani earlier this week while the military said that its troops withdrew from the city.
Prior to the outbreak of war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in April, around 10,000 Egyptian citizens lived in Sudan, 5,000 of whom were students.
More than 10,000 people have been killed in Sudan as of October 2023, according to a conservative estimate from the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data project.
