The commander of the Sudanese army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said on Thursday, that “what happened in Madani in the state of Gezira is unacceptable, and everyone who caused or negligence will be held accountable, and there is no courtesy in that.”
Addressing the Red Sea Military Region officer, al-Burhan stressed “the keenness of the various regular forces to eliminate ” Al Dagalo terrorist rebel militia,” according to a statement from the Sudanese Armed Forces.
“We will win with the determination and the will of the armed forces and the Sudanese people, and we will fight to defeat the rebel terrorist militia and its supporters from the political forces that seek to rule the country through the shreds of the Sudanese people, and we tell them that there is no way to rule Sudan except through elections,” al-Burhan said.
The commander of the Sudanese army described the Rapid Support Forces as “cancer,” pointing to “the support of some political forces and traitors for the rebellion in its war on the Sudanese state and the fragmentation of its unity,” stressing that “every agent and traitor will find deterrence, decisiveness and accountability,” he said.
Burhan stressed “moving forward in the negotiating process in accordance with national constants,” and continued, stressing: “We will not sign a peace agreement that humiliates the armed forces and the Sudanese people.”
On Tuesday, Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces announced control of the headquarters of the Gezira state government in the center of the country, calling on citizens who were displaced from the state to return.
In a statement, the RSF said it “reaffirms that its forces did not seek this war, but were forced to fight it in self-defense and the will of the people who aspire to freedom, peace and democratic civilian rule.”
Since April 15, large-scale violent clashes have erupted between the Sudanese army forces and the Rapid Support Forces in different areas in Sudan, and the two sides had agreed several times to a ceasefire, but it was not adhered to.
The differences between the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, the commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, came to light after the signing of the “framework agreement” establishing the transitional period between the military and the civilian component, in December last year, which recognized the army’s exit from politics and the handover of power to civilians.
