The army announces the seizure of smuggled weapons for the RSF from outside the country

The Sudanese army announced on Wednesday the seizure of weapons and ammunition smuggled into the country, which were on their way to the Rapid Support Forces.

The government accuses regional parties of supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by former deputy chairman of the Sovereign Council, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemedti”.
On October 25, 2021, the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and his former deputy, Hemedti, carried out a military coup that overthrew the transitional government. But disputes between the two coup leaders quickly escalated, leading to the outbreak of war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in mid-April.

The army said that the 11th Infantry Division of the Armed Forces Command in the city of Halfa El-Jadidah and the Atbara River was able, on Wednesday, to seize smuggled military equipment through the lining extending from the eastern region to the central regions.

The smuggled shipment contained a large quantity of weapons and ammunition, including 13,190 units of various ammunition, in addition to 1,160 9-millimeter lead boxes and 4,200 Kalashnikov ammunition, he said. It also included a number of cartridges and Kalashnikov rifles, according to an army statement.
