The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have for the first time officially announced the participation of Emirati armored vehicles in the war in Khartoum, and the announcement comes a week after the army destroyed the UAE’s Tiger armored vehicle south of the belt, members of the armed forces said on Facebook.
In detail, army spokesman Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah explained that they destroyed an Emirati armored vehicle belonging to the Rapid Support Forces in the Al-Shajara military area.
On the other hand, the Sudanese army said on Sunday that it had defeated a new attempt by the Rapid Support Forces on the military tree area south of Khartoum, where the armored corps representing the command of the ground forces is located.
Since late August, the Rapid Support Forces have been seeking to control the armored corps, one of the army’s most important weapons, as it has fought fierce battles with the armed forces in the vicinity of the base in the hope of controlling it, but to no avail.
Sudanese army spokesman Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah said in a statement reported by the Sudan Tribune website that army forces in Al-Shajara military area were able to defeat a failed attack attempt by the Rapid Support Forces.
He pointed out that the attacking forces fled after an epic he described as heroic, stressing the destruction of four combat vehicles with their crews, an Emirati armored vehicle and an armored Sarsar model, as well as the receipt of four armored vehicles and three fully armed combat vehicles, in addition to the “enemy” suffered a large number of deaths and injuries.
The military area of Al-Shajara and the areas in its vicinity south of the Sudanese capital have witnessed battles since Sunday morning, as well as mutual artillery shelling, with the Rapid Support Forces trying to storm the armored corps from several axes.
Platforms affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces broadcast videos showing members of the Rapid Support Forces inside the armored corps and in Al-Shajara military area, before the army’s official Facebook page broadcast videos that it said were of the army forces inside the armored corps.
The army spokesman said the armed forces had also dealt with a number of hostile targets in different locations inside and outside the capital.
“We may lose a battle or lose a position here or there, but we will not lose this legitimate war for the sake of preserving the dignity of this country.”
The latest confrontations in Khartoum came a day after the two sides continued to engage in fierce battles in Darfur, which ended with the capture of 3 military bases belonging to the army in the southern, central and western states of the region.
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said yesterday he was “deeply concerned” by reports of large-scale attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in North and West Darfur states in western Sudan. Borrell said on platform X that “the responsibility to protect civilians in Darfur, and in Sudan as a whole, lies with the warring parties.”
