Port Sudan – Local newspapers – (SUNA) – The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, issued today a constitutional decree dismissing Dr. Al-Hadi Idris Yahya from the position of a member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council.
He called on the parties to the Juba Peace Agreement to nominate a replacement.
Hadi Idris participates in the Sovereign Council with two other members, Malik Agar and Taher Hajar, in accordance with the Juba Peace Agreement, which was signed between the Sudanese government and the armed struggle movements, in October 2020, and they were appointed, on February 4, 2021, as members of the Sovereignty Council, along with the five military commanders.
According to the (Sudan Tribune), Hadi Idris and Tahar Hajar have declared neutrality and refraining from supporting either party to the conflict since the start of the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces on April 15, 2023.
“Both Idris and Hajar became involved in the efforts of political forces seeking to stop the fighting, and together with the leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement, Minni Arko, and the President of Justice and Equality, Jibril Ibrahim, they formed a joint force to protect civilians in the Darfur region.”
The capital, Khartoum, and its neighboring cities have been witnessing fierce fighting between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces since mid-April, following political and security disputes, which caused the displacement of more than 5 million Sudanese inside and outside the country, in addition to the death of more than 5,000 civilians, which required the intervention of local and international humanitarian organizations to help those affected.
