Goodbye Julia achieves great revenues in Egyptian cinema within a week

Al-Yurae- Farewell Julia, the first Sudanese film to be released in Egypt, is directed and written by the award-winning Mohamed Kordofani and stars stage actress and singer Iman Youssef and famous model and former Miss South Sudan Siran Riak.

The Sudanese film “Goodbye Julia” directed by Mohamed Kordofani achieved revenues exceeding one million pounds a week after its release in Egyptian theaters, as the film was launched last Wednesday, October 25, while the film will be released in a number of Arab countries during the coming period, in addition to its release in French cinemas next Wednesday, November 8.

“Goodbye Julia” received its premiere in the United Kingdom at the London Film Festival, and the film won a number of international awards, including winning the Roger Ebert Award at the Chicago International Film Festival, two awards from the War on the Screen Festival in France, namely the Audience Award and the Journalism Award, and also won 3 international awards at the Paysages de Cinéastes Festival, namely the Jury Prize for Rookies, the Audience Award, the Women’s Jury Prize, and the Best African Film Award at the Septimus International Awards.

Farewell Julia’s journey kicked off with the awards at the Cannes International Film Festival, where it won the Freedom Award and had its world premiere. Sudan was also chosen to represent it at the 96th Academy Awards to compete for Best International Film of 2024.The film participated in the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Directed and written by Mohamed Kordofani and starring theater actress and singer Iman Youssef, model and former Miss South Sudan Siran Riak, and co-starring Nizar Juma, Kir Duwaini, photographed by Pierre de Villiers, edited by Heba Osman, sound engineer Rana Eid and fashion design by Mohamed Murr, the film takes place in Khartoum just before the secession of the south, where Mona, a northern woman who lives with her husband Akram, kills a southern man, then appoints his wife Julia, who is looking for him as a maid in her house and helps her.
