The head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, headed on Wednesday to the Turkish capital, Ankara, on an official visit, to discuss common issues between the two countries.
According to a statement issued by the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Al-Burhan will hold talks during the visit (indefinitely), with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the course of bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them, and issues of common interest between the two countries.
According to the statement, Burhan will be accompanied on his visit by Foreign Minister Ali al-Sadiq, Director of the General Intelligence Service General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, and Director General of the Defense Industries System, General Mirghani Idris Suleiman.
Burhan’s visit to Turkey is the fifth of its kind, after Egypt, South Sudan, Qatar and Eritrea, since fighting broke out between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in mid-April.
The Sudanese army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemedti”, accuse each other of responsibility for starting the fighting and committing violations during clashes that several truces did not succeed in stopping, leaving more than 3,000 people dead, most of them civilians, and more than 5 million displaced and refugees inside and outside the country, according to the United Nations.
