Sudanese doctors: a humanitarian disaster in the city of (El-Obeid) and the situation in El Geneina “real hell”

Al-Yurae- The Sudanese Medical Syndicate warned in a statement of a food and health disaster in the city of (El-Obeid) in central Sudan, while describing what is happening in the city of (El Geneina) in the west as a “real hell” as the city is subjected to a new series of attacks.

The union warned of a “food disaster” in the city of El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, in light of the continued siege, noting that most of the food supplies have run out of markets, in addition to the “theft of warehouses” of the United Nations World Food Program and the continued interruption of water services for more than a month.

The statement pointed to attempts by engineers and civil administration men to reach the power plant, but they were attacked and looted, according to the statement.

The statement added that the siege of the city caused the deterioration of health services, with deaths among dialysis patients reaching 12 cases since the beginning of the siege, representing 8 percent of the total number of patients.

The syndicate pointed out that the dialysis center in (El-Obeid) is threatened to be completely out of service in the coming days, as the number of dialysis operations remaining is enough for only ten days.
In a related context, the Doctors Syndicate announced in a statement that the city of (El Geneina), the capital of the state of (West Darfur), was subjected to a new wave of attacks, which may be the most violent, adding that these attacks come in light of a “catastrophic” humanitarian and security situation after the “collapse of services” since the beginning of last May.

The statement of the preliminary committee of the Medical Syndicate pointed to the theft of WFO buildings, including food security stores, three FAO vehicles and a fuel vehicle.

The siege of the city also affected health services, medical staff, their movement and the delivery of aids, which led to “the deterioration of health service provided in hospitals and health facilities in the city and an acute shortage of medicines even at the level of commercial pharmacies”, the doctors’ syndicate said.

The preliminary committee of the Doctors’ Syndicate condemned what it described as “absurd acts that do not care about the lives of citizens,” and appealed to international organizations – led by the Red Cross – to open safe corridors to save the living and health situation of the besieged city, and to deliver foods, medical aids and others from the city of “Rabbak” and neighboring cities.
The union said that it is impossible to “estimate the material and human losses in the city due to the multiplicity of causes of death,” stressing that “the bitter truth is that (El Geneina) is now considered the hell of the real world, there is no place in this universe worse off than it.”
