Khartoum: The representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to Libya, Abdallah Batili, discussed with Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadiq the ongoing steps to remove “mercenaries, militias and foreign forces from Libya.”
This came during a meeting Sadiq held Friday with Batelli at his office in the capital Khartoum, according to a statement issued by the Sudanese Foreign Ministry.
The statement said the envoy “discussed the ongoing steps to remove mercenaries, militias and foreign forces from Libya”.

In addition to the Sudanese militias, there are members of the opposition militias in Chad and mercenaries from the Russian Wagner Group.
The statement said the minister listened to “an explanation from Batelli on his initiative to restore political stability to Libya through the ongoing arrangements to bring the parties together in preparation for holding elections before the end of the year.”
According to the statement, the Sudanese minister stressed “the importance of dialogue between the various Libyan parties to overcome differences with the aim of achieving stability in Libya.”
Al-Sadiq also stressed “the possibility of relying on Sudan to support steps of political and security stability in Libya.”
On March 17, Batelli called on the parties to the Libyan conflict engaged in talks to unify the military institution to support the provision of a safe environment for the holding of elections in 2023.
