Sudan announced on Thursday an increase in fuel prices by 18.7

Sudan announced on Thursday an increase in gasoline prices by 18.7 percent per liter from its previous price, and an increase in the price of a liter of diesel by 6.6 percent, to be applied starting today.

Sudan’s Ministry of Energy and Oil revealed in a statement yesterday an adjustment in fuel prices to a liter of gasoline at 620 pounds per liter ($1.07), up 18.7 percent from previous prices.

It revised the price of diesel to 720 pounds per liter ($1.25), up 7.1 percent.

The statement said that the price adjustment comes within the framework of the policy of reviewing monthly prices, of course, for changes in the global prices of crude oil and derivatives, and the cost of domestic production.

Last year, the government announced the final lifting of fuel subsidies as part of economic reforms agreed with the International Monetary Fund, including liberalization of the local currency, in a bid to eliminate economic and monetary imbalances.

Sudan’s oil production fell after South Sudan’s secession in 2011 from 450,000 bpd to 60,000 bpd, prompting the country to import more than 60 percent of its oil needs.
