Darfur Deputy Governor Sends Padded Threats, Authorities Stand by

Alyurae-Darfur- In a video widely circulated on social media, Darfur’s Deputy Governor Mohamed Issa Aliyu sent veiled threats that “the country expects events whose consequences are unfortunate.”

Deputy Governor of Darfur Mohamed Issa Aliyu called on the people of Darfur to prepare to receive those “who will seek refuge with them in the coming days from the people of Sudan.”

Addressing a tribal event in Darfur, Aliyu predicted Sudan would go through unfortunate events, calling on the people of Darfur to come together “so that you can receive the people of Sudan.”

Aliyu added Darfur was an independent country with its currency, flag and foreign relations.

He added circumstances put it in place with the Sudanese state.

Addressing the people of Darfur, he said, “The circumstances that are seen by him in the eyes of the people of Khartoum these days you got to ask God for guidance,” concluding by saying, “I think you understood the message.”

Many social media activists interpreted his talk as explicit threats intending to destabilize the center and north of the Nile, especially with the heavy presence of militias of armed movements in it recently under the peace agreement, while others considered it to be nothing but a racist tendency in the old areas of Darfur against the northern races.

Observers told Al-Yurae that the inclusion of the name of Hamidtti the (RSF) leader in previous similar threats conversations from several parties and these veiled threats may be a coded message from the RSF militias to those calling for their dissolution or annexation to a unified army.

The silence applied by the official authorities, according to them, towards the statements of the deputy of the Darfur region surprised many, especially since they fall within the violation of the law of incitement to violence and the social fabric

Al-Yurae could not reach out to Aliyu while we did not receive a response from Sudanese authorities or comment on Aliyu’s remarks.
